Do you wake up feeling more tired than you did when you went to bed? Are you constantly feeling groggy and congested, and do you frequently suffer from headaches and sore throats?

Do you have trouble truly remembering the last time you slept well? Is your neck even a bit sore when you wake up in the morning?

If you answer yes to any of these questions, it may be possible that your bedroom is making you sick.

That’s right, the place you go to sleep, relax, and get time to yourself may actually be causing you more harm than good.

But just what exactly is it in your bedroom that can make you sick?

Read on to learn about the top three things in your bedroom that are making you sick.

1. Your Mattress

We spend a third of our lives on our mattresses. Yet, even though we spend so much time on our mattresses, rarely do we pause and try to figure out if our mattress is making us sick.

This is unfortunate, because the truth is, your mattress can make you sick in a number of different ways.

First of all, if your mattress is not giving you the proper support, it can weaken your spinal column, cause aches and pains in your muscles, and, due to incorrect pressure points, can even cut off circulation of your skin.

Secondly, mattresses are filled with skin flakes, bodily fluids, mildew, dust mites, and bacteria. If you don’t take time to vacuum your mattress on a regular basis, these particles can cause snoring, colds, and other respiratory ailments.

All of this can add up to a lack of sleep, which, over the years can lead to more serious illnesses like obesity, diabetes, and autoimmune diseases.

If you think your mattress is the problem, you should start shopping for a new one – something like this might be what you’re looking for.

2. Plants

Plants can add a nice touch to any room in the house. They can also help purify the indoor air, and there are even studies that suggest that houseplants can help reduce stress and anxiety.

So, what’s the problem, exactly?

The problem is that many people tend to over water their houseplants. Not only does this cause root rot, but it also causes mold spores to grow in the soil. These mold spores can trigger an allergic reaction in those who are susceptible to airborne allergies and asthma.

Therefore, make sure you are only watering your houseplants as directed. For the most part, it is actually better to underwater plants than it is to over water them. A good rule of thumb is to only water plants when the top of the soil is completely dry.

3. Pillows

Just like mattresses, pillows can build up bacteria, dust mites, and mold spores over time. All of this buildup can easily lead to congestion, sore throats, and headaches.

Not only that, but pillows also lose their shape and support over time. This can cause your head to be out of alignment with your spine. When this happens, you will find yourself waking up with a sore or stiff neck and shoulders.

Therefore, in order to avoid particle buildup, you should replace your pillow every year if it isn’t washable. And you should switch out your pillowcases every few days.

In order to make sure your pillow is providing you with proper support, fold it in half and see if it bounces back to its original shape. If it’s a foam pillow, there shouldn’t be any indentations on it from your head.
