Cannabis Myths and Misconceptions

The history of cannabis has been rife with slander and misinformation for decades upon decades. It’s only within the last few years that users have had access to any concrete scientific research done through credible institutions. So many years of being kept in the dark has led to countless stories and misconceptions regarding the true nature of marijuana. Here at EF420, we’re experts in all things related to consuming cannabis and cannabis concentrates. Some of these tall tales seem possible, while others border on the completely insane. Let’s take a look at a few different myths and misconceptions related to smoking marijuana.

Myth #1: It’s easy to overdose by smoking marijuana

We’ve all heard this one before. “Smoke too much pot and you might just overdose.” Politicians and parents have been forcing it down our throats for years. Luckily for all of you, this just isn’t true. Unlike opiates, amphetamines and alcohol, THC doesn’t contain the necessary elements to actually cause any type of fatal overdose—not practically, anyways. Although, it wasn’t for a lack of trying. In the early 80’s, a group of scientists did try to prove this phenomenon. Unfortunately for them, the parameters of their experiments were so ridiculous and ungrounded. A lot of the research done from that era has been largely discredited by the scientific community today. That isn’t to say that marijuana can’t still be dangerous. Users should always be weary of how much they consume under the circumstances they find themselves in. And remember, you should never drive after consuming cannabis.

Myth#2: Smoking marijuana has absolutely no negative effects

This one’s tricky. While cannabis might be less dangerous to consume than other drugs out there on the street, it doesn’t come without its own set of risks. At EF420, we believe in arming our readers will all the knowledge they’ll need to make an informed decision about the actions they take. While subjects such as the affect cannabis has on the brain and risk factors related to mental health issues are still a bit lacking in proper research, there’s one risk factor we can all agree on: smoking. Scientists all agree that breathing smoke into your lungs is never a benefit to your health. While it not be as harmful as smoking a cigarette, it’ll still weigh you down in the long run. Lucky for us, though, there are healthier alternatives to consuming cannabis; including vaporizers and edibles.

Myth#3: Smoking marijuana makes you unmotivated and lazy

We’ve all seen the stereotypical lazy stoner archetype that appears in every corner of popular culture. We’ve seen the commercials with deflated bodies sitting in front of the TV without any signs of life or movement. In real life, however, this couldn’t be further from the truth. While it can be relaxing to lay back and enjoy a nice joint after a long day, the fact is that marijuana users can be found at every level of productivity. Many studies have been done and point to the fact that levels of motivation don’t differ much between users and non-users. Marijuana users extend from world famous athletes, captains of industry, to whoever’s reading this right now.

Myth#4: You can’t become addicted to marijuana

While using cannabis doesn’t come with any physical dependencies, it’s still possible to develop what scientists call “psychological dependencies.” This means that even though your body isn’t screaming for more, your mind still tells you use it. This isn’t uncommon and can occur in numerous other areas of your life. It can take on the form of a gambling addiction, a food addiction, etc. Always be careful and recognize when cannabis use is affecting your daily life!

Myth#5: Cannabis reduces physical pain

Here’s another tricky one. Some of you might call semantics, but marijuana doesn’t actually reduce your physical levels of pain. It simply makes you more comfortable with the current level of pain you already feel. Seems silly, but this is the characteristic that separates cannabis from real pain killers used by doctors and anesthesiologists around the world.

When it comes to learning about cannabis, the internet is full of false information and myths that have evolved to be understood as facts. At EF420, we’re experts in all things related to consuming marijuana. Come check out our website and discover some of our exciting new products today!
