Magical Christmas in Wakefield

Wakefield is a middle town in the English county of West Yorkshire and the administrative seat of the Borough City of Wakefield. According to the 2011 census, Wakefield had a total of 99,251 inhabitants.

Located just about nine miles south-east of Leeds and not much further from York, the small city is situated in the centre of the North of England.

This has several advantages, but especially during the festive season residents of Wakefield are very lucky. With many landmarks located in, as well as around, the town of Wakefield and a handful of events dedicated to Christmas, residents and visitors can keep busy and enjoy the wintertime to the fullest.

Christmas Lights at Wakefield Town Hall

Every year the local government is going all out on Christmas decoration. With a large tree, covered with fairy lights and stars and a downright ocean of Christmas lights, the area around the town hall is a popular destination for both residents and visitors of the town, as proudly presented on the town hall’s Facebook page.

Additionally, there are larger-scale Christmas markets in the surrounding cities such as Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester. With sellers in small wood cabins filling the streets, the markets are heavily inspired by a German tradition.

Here you can find delicious mulled wine, hot chocolate, fresh gingerbread and lovingly baked Christmas cookies.

Meet Santa with your Family

A highlight of every year, not only for the kids, but for adults all the same, is meeting Santa. This can be done in several locations, such as at the Acworth Garden Centre.

Additionally, you can go on a magical journey to meet Santa at Tong Garden Centre, which is very popular. If you are okay to travel and spend a festive weekend away from home, you can always catch the Wakefield to London train.

After your 2-hour train ride you can experience of the beauty of the capital in the wintertime to the fullest. The city is shining bright even at night and is an outright Christmas dream.

Whether you admire the Christmas baubles and gold stars above the famous Oxford Street or stroll along the famous Christmas window displays at Selfridges, spending Christmas time in London is antique and beautiful experience, which you should not miss out on.

Christmas is a special time which you should be spending with your family and friends. If you can, you should make the most out of it!
